The benefits of hiring your
own car
Hiring your own car in a huge country like South Africa is a must.
Why be confined to tour buses and tours, with all the crowding,
shoulder rubbing and wailing kids that goes with it, when you could
be out on the open road with the wind in your hair and your favourite
music playing on the CD player? There’s so much to see in
South Africa, from the spectacular Drakensberg Mountains in Kwazulu
Natal to the awe inspiring Table Mountain in the Western Cape, not
to mention the many game reserves and expanses of pristine coastline
that can only be fully appreciated whilst driving through or to
them.
South African roads are good, for the most part, and therefore
driving on them is a pleasure, which is enhanced by the many quaint
and lovely off the beaten track spots that you can only gain access
to with your own rental car. If you’re looking for a holiday
that’s not the usual hotel swimming pool, crowded beach kind,
then hiring a car will ensure you get to see all the wonderful,
not so commonly seen sights that so many people miss. Much of South
Africa’s beauty can be found in these little hideaways that
offer home cooked meals and family run friendliness, and in order
to appreciate our lovely country and its hospitable people, these
places should not be missed.
Even if you’re renting a self catering villa and not planning
on doing any touring, apart from trips along the coast perhaps or
a day’s whale watching in Hermanus, having your own hire car
means you can pop out to the shops whenever you like and go out
in the evenings for dinner, a film or bop till you drop at the local
night clubs. Far better to drive than walk, and if you have a rental
car, it means you can rent a place outside the city and enjoy the
tranquillity of South Africa’s gorgeous countryside too.
